In this special 5 week class combined class, come to the Gilchrist Farm to learn all about horsemanship & horseback riding in the first hour and a half and all about the other animals at the farm in the next hour! This 2.5 hour course includes one and a half hours of horsemanship & horseback riding and one hour of animal care.
In addition to learning to ride, in the horsemanship portion of the class students will learn safety, mounting, leading, handling, showmanship, disciplines and horse care. This is an excellent overview for a beginner or a solid immersion for a student with experience.
In the Animal Care portion of the class, students will learn how to take care of chickens, ducks, peacocks, geese, pigs, bunnies, goats and cows (and even get a cameo appearance from our mini mule Tika). Each class will focus on an animal or a group of animals for a close up look and feel - feed the animals, brush the animals, gather the eggs, trim a goats nails, groom a horse, and learn what caring for animals is all about.
We will gather, incubate and hatch chicken or quail eggs and we will care for caterpillars and watch them emerge as butterflies. During a special event Saturday September 29 at noon we'll release the butterflies during opening weekend of the Gilchrist Farm Harvest Festival.
