Mounted Archery at Gilchrist Farm
Ready for some adventure? Come on out to Gilchrist Farm to learn the art and sport of Mounted Archery! Never ridden a horse or shot an arrow? No problem, we’ll start you at the beginning. Already a great Mounted Archer? Come on out to sharpen your skills. Instruction available for first timers through advanced/competitive riders. Ride our horses or bring your own for some fine tuning, training or just plain fun! Looking for an exciting activity for your group or troop? Group activities available the Friday of each Mounted Archery weekend or by appointment. Perfect for groups, troops and parties for children and adults. Looking for a special ladies night out? Guys get together? Bachelor or Bachelorette experience? Mounted Archery private group classes are the perfect adventure to share with friends. Create amazing memories!
Mounted Archery classes are appropriate for children 7 years old through ambitious seniors! Great activity for the whole family to try out together! Celebrate a birthday, event or achievement during one of our Mounted Archery Weekends!
Each weekend consists of:
Friday: Group Classes or private parties available for groups and troops of 10 or more. $40/participant, designed with your groups needs in mind. Individual horse training sessions and overnight boarding available. Schedule directly by contacting us.
Saturday and Sunday: Classes available from 10:30-12:30 and 1:30-3:30. Individual horse training sessions or private lessons available from 5PM-7PM. Call to schedule those sessions directly. All levels of instruction available at all classes. Single class is priced at $45, additional class/es the same weekend $40 per additional class. All 4 classes the same weekend $150. Hamburgers/Hot dogs available onsite in between morning/afternoon sessions.

safety & technique
Learn how to handle the bow & arrow safely on the ground. Progress to safely handling the bow & arrow on horseback. Learn to mock your arrow on the ground, then while mounted. Advanced students will be assessed for knowledge & skills and advanced appropriately.
Want to bring your own horse along for an introduction to Mounted Archery? James can help you introduce the basics or refine the more advanced skills necessary to succeed in the sport of Mounted Archery.
horsemanship & riding
Learn or advance your skills in horsemanship and riding. Learn to mock your arrow while mounted. Learn to ride while holding the bow & arrow. Learn to shoot while riding. Begin on a lunge line, progress to ride the “archery lane” as your skills develop.
James zoppe, instructor
Taught by the “Red Knight,” James Zoppe, the horses and instructor have years of experience in jousting and mounted archery. Third generation bareback circus rider, James has spent a lifetime honing horsemanship skills the rest of only dream about! Come out and take advantage of his expertise, experience and caring nature.
